Call for Papers: Fourth CESAI Conference on Afghan Studies

bicc invites scholars to submit papers for the Fourth CESAI Conference on Afghan Studies. This interdisciplinary event provides a platform for academic discussions on Afghan Studies in a broad sense, including the wider transboundary cultural and linguistic region bridging Western, Central and South Asia.

We welcome proposals for individual papers and panels that contribute new academic perspectives on topics such as (but not limited to):

  • Continuity and change in Afghan power relations throughout history;
  • Cultural universalities and idiosyncrasies among multi-ethnic communities of Afghanistan and its neighbouring regions;
  • The future of Afghan Studies—this panel may also feature a roundtable discussion if there is sufficient interest.

Please note: Papers focusing on policy and security aspects will not be considered.

The working language of the conference is English. Presentations should be 20 minutes long, followed by 10 minutes of discussion.

Submission Guidelines

Scholars interested in presenting should submit an abstract (max. 400 words in English) and a completed registration form by 22 May 2025 to cesai.conference@gmail.com. Accepted participants will be notified by 25 May 2025.

The Organising Committee reserves the right to organise accepted papers into thematic panels.
