Dissemination of “Operational guidance note on handling weapons and ammunition”
In partnership with the African Union, and with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office, BICC started the dissemination of “Operational Guidance Notes on Weapons and Ammunition-handling” (OGN) to African Union member states.
The objectives of these OGN are to provide stakeholders and practitioners with the knowledge to increase PSSM capacities and capabilities. The OGN on “Physical Security and Stockpile Management: Preconditions and Sustainability” draws on experiences relevant to African contexts and identifies the central preconditions that should be in place to improve the sustainability of PSSM interventions. The other two OGN outline the incremental “low-cost–high-impact steps” that can be taken to achieve a minimum of safe storage of SALW and ammunition. The OGN are available under the following links:
