Forced Migration and Refugee Studies (FFVT)

Research on forced migration and refugees is highly relevant in Germany. As its importance has grown, so has the demand for expertise from civil society, the media and politics. To meet this deman, it is essential to establish strong networks in Germany and worldwide.

The project aims to strengthen interdisciplinary  and international research on forced migration and refugees. Through its various activities, FFVT is helping to establish a sustainable infrastructure
for research on forced migration and refugees in Germany, thereby enabling high-quality scientific work. The project brings together research on migration, development, conflict and violence, climate change, health, good governance and human rights. In this way, FFVT facilitates networking between researchers and institutions working on issues related to forced migration.

A key element of the project is dialogue between academia, practitioners, the media and policy-makers. The FFVT website contains a dedicated Ukraine information hub and an interactive database covering nearly 700 research projects in Germany. The Report Globale Flucht (report on global displacement; in German) is published annually as part of the project. To internationalise German research on forced migration and refugees, FFVT co-organises international conferences and offers a global fellowship programme and a summer school in Nuremberg.
