showfor a more peaceful world
The project aims to reduce armed group violence across Africa by delivering empirical research and technical advice that help shape stronger, more effective policies and initiatives—such as DDR and CVR—supporting communities and peacebuilding efforts continent-wide.
The project’s primary objective is to reduce and address armed group violence in Africa through empirical evidence on armed group dynamics and technical advice to key conflict stakeholders. The evidence is used to inform and enhance international, regional and national policies and responses in support of, for instance, disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) and related processes, such as community violence reduction (CVR), across the continent. The core project partners―the Department of Peace Operations (DPO), the African Union (AU)―and bicc as the lead implementing partner aim to maintain and deepen their collaboration with regional and local partners, researchers and academic institutions. This continued cooperation seeks to enhance knowledge sharing between partners and researchers from the Global North and South. As regional partners, the Lake Chad Basin Commission and the Regional Centre on Small Arms and Light Weapons (RECSA) are integrated into the project’s institutional architecture. Holding a peace and security mandate, the LCBC and RECSA are central actors in the design and implementation of policies and responses in support of DDR and related processes.
