JRF online event: The local integration of refugees

On 29 October 2020, the Johannes-Rau-Research Community (JRF) event "The local integration of refugees—Experiences from NRW" (in German) took place. The five JRF institutes ILS, BICC, DST, ZfTI and DIE examined the topic from different perspectives and presented current research results in the form of impulse lectures at the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Questions were discussed, such as the significance of arrival cities, whether socio-spatial integration is successful, which factors in the lives of refugees serve as causes of conflict and how to act against them. Integration policy concepts that facilitate the acquisition of basic vocational skills were also discussed. Last but not least, the question of how the social participation of refugees can be improved and their economic dependence reduced was examined.

The event began with a live video greeting from Dr Joachim Stamp, Minister for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (video recording from min. 8)

The guests were connected online and could join in the discussion. A panel discussion with representatives from the field rounded off the programme.
