Online discussion \ A new climate for peace—Fighting climate change. Preventing violence.

Climate change as a global challenge requires concerted responses. Existing dangers and measures that contribute to combating climate and peace risks was the topic of an online discussion (in German language) on 21 September 2020.

Climate change is already threatening the existence of many people today, especially in countries of the Global South. Conflicts over resources such as water or pasture land are intensifying, extreme weather and natural disasters are robbing people of their livelihoods and forcing them to flee their homes. It poses immense dangers and threatens peace.
On the occasion of the UN Day of Peace on 21 September, 18.00 to 19.30,
· Professor Dr Conrad Schetter, Scientific Director and Co-Publisher of the Peace Report, BICC,
· Birgit Sippel, MEP,
· Dr Koko Warner, Manager, “Impacts, Vulnerablility and Risks” Subprogramme, UNFCCC
were the discussants.
The online discussion was organised by BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion), Brot für die Welt, Friedrich-Ebert Foundation (FES), Platform for Civil Conflict Transformation.
