Regional Training on Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) in Nairobi, Kenya
In partnership with the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA), the Multinational Small Arms and Ammunition Group (MSAG) and the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC), and with financial support from the German Federal Foreign Office BICC conducted a regional training on Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) of weapons, ammunition and explosives from 13-22 March 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. This training was attended by 24 participants tasked with weapons and ammunition management, from 9 East African countries, deriving from the armed forces (police and military) as well as the Wildlife Services. Through theoretical and practical exercises, the training builds on existing weapons/ ammunition management expertise of participants and instructors in complex, limited-resource and often conflict-affected contexts, equipping them with in-depth knowledge of international guidance and best practice including the UN ammunition and small arms control guidelines (IATGs and MOSAIC). At the end of the March 2019 course, five Instructor Candidates qualified as PSSM Instructors and received their PSSM Instructor badges.
