Webinar Series on "Peer-to-Peer Exchange on DDR(-related) processes"
Fostering Peer support and South-South Cooperation and Learning
Since 2021, the African Union (AU) in partnership with the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (bicc) and the United Nations Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO/DDR branch), as well as the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), has organised a peer-to-peer exchange on DDR-related processes among national-level practitioners from over ten AU member States. Between 2022 and 2025 on average four closed-door online sessions were held per year discussing various DDR-related subjects prioritized by the participants. The 2026 iteration of the webinar series aims to further deepen the knowledge and understanding among national-level practitioners, including policymakers, practitioners, and planners, on DDR and related processes, including, for example, the prevention of and countering violent extremism, but also Community Violence Reduction initiatives and defection programmes. In four sessions, starting July 21 st up to December 2026, it shall continue to provide participants with a platform for enhanced knowledge and experience sharing across countries through peer-to-peer learning, linking theory to practice based on diverse country perspectives. Importantly, it promotes South–South cooperation by creating a conducive networking platform for DDR practitioners from the Global South.
