BICC listed again in the Global Think Tank Ranking \ International research community is looking for answers to the manifold consequences of the Covid-19 crisis
Around the globe, think tanks are analysing the profound disruptions of societies and economies as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic. As a peace and conflict research institute, BICC is one of the think tanks that focus particularly on the conflict dynamics associated with this. In the 2020 Global Think Tank Ranking, BICC is again amongst the top 100 think tanks worldwide.
In the 2020 Global Go To Think Tank Ranking of the University of Pennsylvania, BICC features once again in the categories “Top Think Tanks Worldwide (global, rank 68) and “Top 100 Think Tanks (non-US, rank 84). For the first time, BICC has also been nominated as one of the best western European think tanks (rank 116).
“The transdisciplinary efforts to protect peoples’ lives and livelihoods in the face of this pandemic unites think tanks worldwide. We are proud to be part of this international research community”, Professor Conrad Schetter, Director of BICC comments the institute’s nomination. “Our empirical research and advice on armed violent conflict, radicalisation and forced displacement—globally and locally—is very aware of the new conflict dynamics in the wake of the pandemic”, Schetter explains.
BICC researchers not only look at the conflict situations in the Global South but also at society in Germany. In this context, Conrad Schetter points out: “In 2020, the international ranking once again acknowledges socially relevant cutting-edge research in North Rhine-Westphalia by listing BICC, the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), the Center for Development Research (ZEF) and the Wuppertal Institut (WI) several times in the ranking.”
With over 11,175 entries, the TTCSP maintains the largest and most comprehensive database on think tanks. In 2020, a panel of around 3,970 specialist institutions and experts from science, public and private funding agencies, governments and print and electronic media from all over the world took part in the ranking.
BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion) is a non-university think tank with international staff. It was founded in 1994 and is a member of the Johannes-Rau-Research Community. BICC’s Director holds a professorship for Peace and Conflict Studies at Bonn University.
