Global Think Tank Ranking \ BICC listed as the only German think tank for peace and conflict research
Empirical research and advice on violent armed conflicts, radicalisation, forced migration and arms export controls make up the character of the peace and conflict research institute BICC as a think tank. In the Global Think Tank Ranking 2019, BICC is again amongst the top 100 think tanks worldwide.
In the 2019 Global Go To Think Tank Ranking of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania, BICC features once again in the categories “Top Think Tanks Worldwide (global, rank 68) and “Top 100 Think Tanks (non-US, rank 84).
“This ranking reflects the recognition of our efforts to bring more peace into the world,” Professor Conrad Schetter, Director for Research at BICC, delighted with the nomination of the institute. “Our work focuses primarily on peacebuilding measures in regions of conflict in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America”, he explaines.
“BICC, the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), the Center for Development Research (ZEF) and the Wuppertal Institute (WI), all of which are listed several times in the ranking also stand for top-level research in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is not to be missed in such an international ranking”, Conrad Schetter emphasises.
With over 6,500 entries, the TTCSP maintains the largest and most comprehensive database on think tanks. In 2019, a panel of around 1,800 specialist institutions and experts from science, public and private funding agencies, governments and print and electronic media from all over the world took part in the ranking.
BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion) is a non-university think tank with international staff. It was founded in 1994 and is a member of the Johannes-Rau-Research Community. BICC’s Director for Research holds a professorship for Peace and Conflict research at Bonn University
