This article examines the becoming of post-conflict spaces in North Waziristan through a comparative analysis of Mirali and Razmak. Drawing on extended fieldwork and qualitative materials, it traces how peace is materially produced, symbolically constructed, and locally negotiated. The study operationalises becoming by reading the co-presence of routine and threat alongside the (mis)alignment between built forms (roads, checkpoints, markets, services) and inscriptions (monuments, slogans, commemorations, branding), and by following situated practices through which residents appropriate, accommodate, or refuse official projections. In Mirali, new infrastructures and symbolic inscriptions structure space but also produce contention, yielding an uneven peace. In Razmak, material forms align more closely with everyday life, sustaining a comparatively settled order. The article argues that peace is not implemented linearly but spatially negotiated across uneven relations of power, identity, and meaning, foregrounding the multiplicity of peace in a region often reduced to a singular security narrative.
