The NRW Office for the Protection of the Constitution estimates that there are more than 4,000 right-wing extremists, almost half of whom are prepared to use violence, and the number is rising. Violent Islamism continues to pose a threat. This makes it all the more important to conduct research that not only gets to the bottom of the causes and conditions of extremist radicalisation, but also investigates ways how to prevent and deradicalise extremist movements. The research report 2020 of the CoRE-NRW network offers the first systematic overview of the existing research landscape.
