This module is intended to serve as a guideline for members of national and local civil society and civil society organizations (CSOs) and their representatives that want to become involved in small arms and light weapons (SALW) control. CSOs include, for example, registered charities or non-profit groups, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community groups, women's organizations, faith-based organizations, coalitions and advocacy groups, as well as schools and universities among others.
Though this module is designed primarily for use with civil society organizations, it can also be used to train officials from municipal and provincial governments, as well as legislators.
The objective of this module is to familiarize trainees with:
- The SALW collection and destruction process.
- The different roles civil society organizations can play in SALW collection and destruction and related activities.
- Activities to be undertaken in order to support a weapons collection and destruction program (WCDP).
