Marius Bales
Professional Career
Marius Bales joined bicc in April 2016. He holds a bachelor in Political Science and German Studies from the University of Trier and a master in Political Science from the University of Bonn. His master's thesis investigated the evolution of modern air warfare in the Gulf region. Marius has been working as a freelance journalist for many years.
Before joining the DFG-funded project on liquid warfare, he worked as a student assistant in the BMZ project on arms export control and was the co-editor of the Global Militarisation Index (GMI).As a researcher at BICC, he deals with the question of how the proliferation of modern military technology is changing military strategy of the Yemeni Houthis and the Gulf States. His regional focus is the Middle East, where he has conducted field research several times. He is currently writing his doctoral thesis at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
