Launch event \ “Silencing the Guns – Continental Plan of Action Arms Control Database”
On 10 December 2020, the African Union Commission (AU) in partnership with BICC as well as the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) launched the “AU Silencing the Guns Continental Plan of Action Arms Control Database”.
The database aims to create visibility on ongoing and completed interventions in the field of small arms and light weapons (SALW) control by improving and synchronizing effectiveness of counter-proliferation efforts as well as enhancing information sharing and coordination between AU Member States, regional organizations, donors and implementing agencies. Additionally, through the AU Roster of PSSM Practitioners, the Database links State and implementer needs with qualified personnel. The Database covers sixteen countries in the Greater Sahel region and provides information on ongoing and completed projects, as well as research and assessment regarding different aspects of Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM).
