Research Profile


Abdullah's main research interests include political violence and civil war, third-party intervention in civil conflicts, wartime social order, authoritarian conflict management, peacebuilding and reconciliation processes, rebel–military integration and local governance in areas of limited statehood.

Professional Career

Abdullah al-Jabassini holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Kent, Canterbury. Currently, he is a Max Weber Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence, where he also serves as the scientific coordinator for the Syrian Trajectories project at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. He is a Non-resident Scholar at the Middle East Institute in Washington, DC. Previously, al-Jabassini was a Research Fellow for the Wartime and Post-Conflict in Syria project at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies.
