Marius Kahl built up expertise generally in the areas of post-war transformative reconstruction challenges and, more specifically, in disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DD&R); security sector reform (esp. physical security & stockpile management (PSSM)); small arms & light weapons (SALW); African security; European security and the concept of comprehensive security /whole of governance approach. He is also interested in the phenomenon of current maritime piracy.

Professional Career

Marius Kahl is an Economist (MA equivalent) and completed his studies at the University of the Federal Armed Forces, Hamburg, Germany, in 2002. In 2008, he received his MA in Conflict, Security & Development at King’s College London, UK.
Marius Kahl joined the German Armed Forces (Navy) as an officer after his A-levels in 1995 and served there in different positions (Watch Officer aboard naval vessels/ Bundeswehr Operations Command (Joint Operation Center) / Controlling & Accounting in different areas incl. Ministry of Defense) until 2007 (Lieutenant Commander (res.)). 
He also gathered experience in a globally active industrial company (ThyssenKrupp AG). 
Over the last two years at BICC, he has provided technical advice across the competencies of DD&R and stockpile / small arms management to high-level institutions of the Government of South Sudan, exposing him to work with high-ranking government and security sector staff.
