Research Profile


Being member of the coordination unit of the research network CoRE-NRW (Connecting Research on Extremism in North Rhine-Westphalia) which she joined in 2019, her work focuses on radicalisation and extremism, involving different ideologies such as Islamism and right-wing extremism, as well as phenomena like conspiracy narratives. Experienced in all kinds of PR work, a special focus of Susanne lies on communication and the use of social media in this field.  

Beyond project related topics, Susanne is interested in the culture of memory and engages in the local implementation of so called “Stolpersteine” (“Stumbling Blocks”) created by Gunter Demnig.

Professional Career

Susanne currently is working in the coordination unit of the research network CoRE-NRW (Connecting Research on Extremism in North Rhine-Westphalia) which she joined in 2019.  

From 2003 until the end of 2022 Susanne was chief officer for public relations at bicc. She was thus responsible for the entire area of press and public relations. Her work also covered the publication and editing of publications, in particular the Annual Report, the Global Militarization Index (GMI) and the Knowledge Notes. Heading event management at bicc, she conceptionalised, organised and implemented scientific events at bicc and with cooperation partners. Starting at bicc in 1999, she also conceptionalised several exhibitions (e. g. photo exhibition ”Safety First”, 2019, Photo exhibition A CALL FOR ARMS, 2015, “Resources for a Fairer World—Photo Exhibition”, 2012, Photo exhibition “Millennium Development Goals 2015–Acting Global for Poverty Reduction, Development and Peace”, 2007, “ConverArt–The Art of Disarmament”, 1999). 

Before bicc, she worked as a journalist. She holds a M.A. degree in Slavic studies.
