Conference \ Prevention of radicalisation in NRW. How can the capacities of experts be strengthened?

In this online conference on 30 November 2021, BICC presented final findings from its project on prevention of radicalisation and discussed key recommendations to the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (in German language).

Between 2018 and 2021, BICC conducted research on local challenges and needs of radicalisation prevention in North Rhine-Westphalia with funding from the Ministry of Culture and Science NRW. This included numerous workshops and interviews with professionals in prevention work, including social work professionals, teachers, municipal and city employees and police officers. Interim results have already been published in several BICC Working Papers and BICC Policy Briefs (in German language):

On the one hand, the conference looked at primary and secondary prevention activities that can be found in local communities as well as in prisons in NRW. On the other hand, it addressed exit support and deradicalisation. A particular challenge here is dealing with returnees from the so-called Islamic State.
A conference documentation will be published in early 2022.
