Official Launch \ Revised UN Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration Standards
The official launch of the revised United Nations Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Standards (IDDRS) took place in Geneva and New York on 19 November 2019 and represents a milestone in DDR policy and practice.
BICC supports the revision of the United Nations Integrated Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Standards (IDDRS) and participated in the event. The Chef de Cabinet, Ms. Maria Luiza Viotti opened the launch event on behalf of the Secretary-General. Furthermore, the Administrator of the UN Development Programme Achim Steiner, the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix as well as the Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Tatiana Valovaya and the IAWG co-chair Principals attended. Additionally, other high-level representatives from IAWG Members, Member States, Partners or regional organizations were present.
The launch focused primarily on the strategic level of the IDDRS, including the revised UN approach to DDR and four new modules about the legal framework, the politics of DDR, community violence reduction and reintegration as part of sustaining peace. Additionally, the interlinkages to other frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were highlighted
