Withdrawal from Afghanistan—Consequences and Lessons From an Engagement

Three years ago, NATO troops withdrew from Afghanistan, and the Taliban took over. Has the mission failed—as is often claimed—or is there a more nuanced picture? Dr Katja Mielke, senior researcher at bicc, has examined the impact of intervention policies on the Afghan population and discusses the consequences of renewed Taliban rule for the Afghan people.
