BICC and INEF congratulate Herbert Wulf on his 80th birthday

BICC (Bonn International Center for Conversion) and INEF (Institute for Development and Peace) warmly congratulate Professor Dr Herbert Wulf on his 80th birthday. He is still actively engaged in research as well as in an advisory capacity, amongst other things, as Associate Researcher with BICC and Adjunct Senior Researcher with INEF.

Since the 1970s, Herbert Wulf has shaped German and international debates on arms production, arms exports, conversion, disarmament and the arms-development nexus. More recently, he has focused in particular on the privatisation of security, the changing role of the monopoly on the use of force as well as UN peacekeeping issues. He also publishes on India’s foreign- and security policy and North Korea’s nuclear policy. “The broad range of topics is testament to the creativity and versatility that distinguish Herbert Wulf's work to this day, Professor Tobias Debiel, Director INEF, where he is currently researching on post-conflict peacebuilding and India’s global role. In 2012/2013, he was also Senior Expert Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg (Centre for Global Cooperation Research) in Duisburg that is supported by INEF as a partner organisation.
“BICC owes its foundation and successful start-up phase to Herbert Wulf as former Director (1994–2001) from which we continue to benefit today”, emphasises Michael Dedek, Director for Administration at BICC.
Professor Wulf’s international career began as early as in the 1960s when he worked for the German Development Service (DED) in India. He was a Project Leader at the renowned Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and spent many years doing research at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH). Herbert Wulf is a recognised expert for the European Union, the United Nations Department for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the  United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), amongst others.
“Herbert Wulf does not see peace research as an end in itself but has repeatedly intervened in public debates in an advisory capacity, as an author and with numerous interviews”, Tobias Debiel and Professor Dr Conrad Schetter, Director for Research at BICC, jointly praise the great commitment of a very special person.
