New information platform \ core-nrw.de

The website core-nrw.de by network for research on extremism the offers comprehensive information on extremism research and prevention in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Different extremist tendencies pose considerable challenges to our open, democratic society. Research networks play a pivotal role in understanding and evaluating dynamics and processes behind violent radicalisation tendencies. This is where the network Connecting Research on Extremism in North Rhine-Westphalia, in short CoRE-NRW, comes in and investigates the conditions and forms of extremist, violent radicalisation to find effective countermeasures. The Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia supports CoRE-NRW through a coordination unit that, since August 2019, is located at the peace and conflict research institute BICC in Bonn. Its new website now allows the viewer to easily access research results, publications and information on various research areas.
“An important part of preventing and fighting extremism is to understand the phenomenon in all its variants. The network CoRE-NRW is instrumental in promoting the necessary exchange of information between research and practice as well as knowledge-sharing with civil society. With its new online information platform, research results are now made accessible to a wider public”, comments Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen, Minister for Culture and Science.
Initially, in 2016, CoRE-NRW conducted research on violent extremist Salafism. Since then, various new questions on right-wing extremism, neo-Nazism and other manifestations of extremism have emerged. The website now contains a map that gives an overview on where and which projects and institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia are doing research on extremism.
Beyond this, the platform core-nrw.de allows the viewer to conduct a search on various levels on projects and publications. This is possible, for instance, along different academic disciplines such as ethnology, religious and cultural studies to criminology, political sciences and sociology as well as psychology, education and social work. Also, academic studies on how people radicalise and what preventative action can be taken can be found on the website.

At “Bei CoRE-NRW mitmachen” (Participate in CoRE_NRW), those who are interested can register in the network and are informed about activities in the network, events and new publications. They are also invited to participate in all networking activities.
