New publication \ Third Report on the State of Extremism Research in North Rhine-Westphalia
The third Annual Research Report of the CoRE-NRW network gives a comprehensive overview of this research landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia and current projects on Islamism, right-wing extremism and cross-cutting aspects, such as anti-Semitism, racism and conspiracy narratives.
Research is increasingly addressing the question of how crises in society promote radicalisation. “For a long time, alliances and mixed scenes of groups that are sceptical of or even hostile to democracy have opposed the Covid-19 measures taken by the German government. This new mobilisation potential contributed significantly to radicalisation processes in Germany and could consolidate with regard to future social conflict topics”, Maurice Döring, researcher at the peace and conflict research institute BICC in Bonn and head of the coordination unit of the NRW-network Research on Extremism CoRE-NRW.
