Peace Report 2022 presented in Berlin
The war in Ukraine is the main topic of this year's Peace Report. The joint report of the leading German peace research institutes analyses why it was possible for a hot war to break out again in the middle of Europe and asks about its global consequences.
The Peace Report 2022 is entitled "Friedensfähig in Kriegszeiten” (Capable of Peace in Times of War). It sets out the conditions for the success of sanctions, describes the crisis of the global nuclear order and makes recommendations for Germany's new National Security Strategy.
Beyond that, the Peace Report 2022 addresses conflict dynamics worldwide. It explains why violent jihadist actors, as well as violence and discrimination against women and LGBTQI* minorities require new approaches to peace policy.
Finally, the report argues for democratic checks on security institutions. It thus responds to the expanded competencies of national security institutions in democracies in the face of terrorist threats, the pandemic and extremism.

About the Peace Report
The Peace Report is the annual publication by the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (BICC), the Leibniz Institute Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH) and the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF).
In it, the leading German peace and conflict research institutes analyse current international conflicts, highlight trends in international foreign, security and development policy and make recommendations for policymakers. Interdisciplinary teams of authors from Political Sciences, Sociology, Ethnology, Physics and Religious Studies work together in writing the chapters and thus shed light on the topics from different angles.
