The closure of Belgian, British and US military bases and base closures in the context of the transformation process within the Bundeswehr continue to pose tremendous challenges for local authorities and governments of federal states in Germany. How does the civilian use of former military real estate fit into overall planning and structural concepts? Together with NRW.URBAN, BICC is supporting the government of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) in finding answers to this question. One important element of the advisory services to the state government is an interactive conversion database and web mapping application, which has been jointly developed by NRW.URBAN and BICC. As long-standing member of the inter-ministerial working group “Troop Withdrawal and Base Conversion” BICC is involved in the resolution of current and upcoming base conversion processes in NRW.
