The network Connecting Research on Extremism in North Rhine-Westphalia, CoRE for short, was founded in 2016 to promote interdisciplinary exchange between researchers working on radicalisation and extremism in North Rhine-Westphalia. CoRE-NRW also strengthens the transfer of knowledge between research and practice. In doing so, the network synthesises expertise throughout the federal state to identify core questions and close knowledge gaps. Besides the current focus on violent Salafism, it also looks at references to other manifestations of extremism and includes relevant actors outside of NRW.
The coordination unit of the network is located at the peace and conflict research institute BICC in Bonn. On behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Science of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia, it regularly organises events and network meetings. It informs about relevant events and publications via its website www.core-nrw.de. The network’s research results, which include an annual research report, are published in a freely accessible CoRE-NRW publication series.
